Black Brazilian Lives Matter: photos of the protest against the murder of João Alberto Silveira Freitas, on the eve of Black Consciousness Day, in Porto Alegre
Photos of a demonstration in front of the Carrefour supermarket in Passo D'Areia, in the north of Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul. João Alberto Silveira Freitas, a 40-year-old black welder, was beaten and asphyxiated to death by two white security guards in the service of the Carrefour seupermarket on the night of Thursday, November 19, the eve of Black Consciousness Day, celebrating Afro-Brazilian struggles against slavery and racism. November is Black Consciousness Month in Brazil and the year 2020 is the sixth of the International Decade of People of African Descent launched by the UN in 2015. Shame on Carrefour!
