Austrian Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is organising a conference in Vienna on 20 and 21 November entitled "Combating anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism". Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to be a special guest of honour. It is to be expected that this conference will once again express absolute solidarity with Israel. With an Israel that has brutally oppressed the Palestinian people for decades, ignoring and mocking international and human rights. It is the obvious purpose of this event to distract from this.

Despite countless international decisions and resolutions, Israel denies the Palestinian people their right to self-determination by founding their own state or by living together on an equal footing in a common state. Israel has established a sophisticated legal system which treats Jewish and non-Jewish citizens extremely differently and which does not differ significantly from the apartheid system of the former South Africa. Since the founding of the State of Israel in 1948, hundreds of thousands of political prisoners have testified to this inhuman system of rule and oppression, which is contrary to international law. More than a third of all Palestinian families were and are affected. This unequal legal system has also created the basis for a settlement policy that is illegal under international law. This simply represents a method of land grabbing and expulsion of the indigenous Palestinian population from their homeland.
We condemn Israel's policy in the strongest terms. This judgment is absolutely legitimate, it is based on the universal norms of international law and human rights. Nor does this criticism have anything to do with anti-Semitism, as the Israeli leadership and its lobbyists throughout the world claim. This is also demonstrated by the growing number of Jewish organisations, women and men, who also sharply criticise Israel's apartheid policy under the leadership of Netanyahu and his right-wing extremist government.
As Austrian citizens, we expect the Austrian Federal Government, especially Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, not to indulge in a cheap propaganda and disinformation campaign of Israel, but to recognize the indivisibility of human and international law and make it the basis of its own policies.
Criticism of Israel's apartheid policy and Zionism is absolutely justified; it has nothing to do with anti-Semitism!
Zionism is the name given to itself by Israeli colonialism in its quest to establish an exclusive Jewish apartheid state. It is based on the nationalistic presumption of superiority and privilege of one's own people. Anti-Zionism is a democratic and anti-colonial movement, as well as the basis for justice and peaceful coexistence of all denominations in the region.
The unprecedented equation of resistance and liberation struggle with anti-Semitism, as practised by Netanyahu & Trump and supported by Kurz, points back to the dark 19th century: without democracy but instead with colonialism, which then as now presents itself as civilisational progress.
