Villagers in limbo as World Bank abandons controversial Kosovo power plant

The decision ends the World Bank’s support for coal worldwide, but also leaves villagers unsure of their fate as the Kosovo government vows to push ahead with the power plant.



KEK, Kosovo’s state-owned power company, mines coal near the village of Hade. A vein of lignite coal underneath Hade’s rolling hillsides makes it a target as KEK continues to expand its mining operations. Visar Kryeziu / International Consortium of Investigative Journalists
